Why should I complain?<\/p>\n<p>B: You just sounded as if you were.<\/p>\n<p>A: It&#8217;s because I&#8217;m bored.<\/p>\n<p>B: How can you be bored defending your country?<\/p>\n<p>A: I wish I were defending my country.<\/p>\n<p>B: Of course you are.<\/p>\n<p>A: The hell I am! Searching people&#8217;s pockets\u2026<\/p>\n<p>B: It&#8217;s our duty. You don&#8217;t want a bomb to go off in the&nbsp;cinema, do you?<\/p>\n<p>A: But why me?<\/p>\n<p>B: Somebody has to do it.<\/p>\n<p>A: Yeah, somebody has to do it, but if we were a bit cleverer it wouldn&#8217;t be such a bore.<\/p>\n<p>B: What do you mean?<\/p>\n<p>A: Do we really have to search everybody?<\/p>\n<p>B: You can&#8217;t tell Arabs from people.<\/p>\n<p>A: But why can&#8217;t I?<\/p>\n<p>B: Because you can&#8217;t. If they&#8217;re clever, they&#8217;ll send someone fair, someone who doesn&#8217;t look very AraB:<\/p>\n<p>A: But if we mark them\u2026<\/p>\n<p>B: What do you mean?<\/p>\n<p>A: Make them all carry a mark.<\/p>\n<p>B: What kind of mark?<\/p>\n<p>A: Any mark. A star for instance. Something to distinguish them from the others.<\/p>\n<p>B: Are you suggesting that every Arab should carry a mark on his clothes?<\/p>\n<p>A: Exactly. With a mark we could spot them immediately and search them. Save us time and trouble.<\/p>\n<p>B: Don&#8217;t be ridiculous. We can&#8217;t do that.<\/p>\n<p>A: Why?<\/p>\n<p>B: Behave like Nazis? The world would despise us. We couldn&#8217;t do it.<\/p>\n<p>A: Who cares about the world? The world didn&#8217;t care about us.<\/p>\n<p>B: Even so; you can&#8217;t do it. We still need world sympathy.<\/p>\n<p>A: To hell with world sympathy. Security is what we need.<\/p>\n<p>B: You won&#8217;t get it by antagonizing the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>A: All right then. We can&#8217;t mark the Arabs, but we can still mark the Jews.<\/p>\n<p>B: The Jews?<\/p>\n<p>A: Yes, the Jews. Do you think they&#8217;ll object to that?<\/p>\n<p>B: Who?<\/p>\n<p>A: The world.<\/p>\n<p>B: Marking the Jews?<\/p>\n<p>A: Yes.<\/p>\n<p>B: How shall we mark the Jews?<\/p>\n<p>A: Same as usual. A yellow star. We&#8217;re already used to it.<\/p>\n<p>B: Well\u2026<\/p>\n<p>A: The world can&#8217;t object to us wearing yellow stars, can it?<\/p>\n<p>B: Well\u2026<\/p>\n<p>A: Don&#8217;t you see? They won&#8217;t be able to go into a public place without being identified and searched.<\/p>\n<p>B: The Jews?<\/p>\n<p>A: Idiot. The Arabs!<\/p>\n<p>B: I see.
