{"id":232,"date":"1989-06-10T20:00:05","date_gmt":"1989-06-10T17:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matzpen.org\/english\/?p=232"},"modified":"2021-05-31T14:03:27","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T11:03:27","slug":"plato-banned-in-bastion-of-democracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/matzpen.org\/english\/1989-06-10\/plato-banned-in-bastion-of-democracy\/","title":{"rendered":"Plato banned in bastion of democracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Qezi&#8217;ot<\/em>, popularly known as <em>Ansar 3<\/em>, is a concentration camp in the middle of the Negev desert, in which about 3,000 Palestinian prisoners are held \u2013 in flagrant violation of the Geneva Conven\u00adtion. About 1,000 of the prisoners are held without even the be\u00adnefit of a court-martial, they are administrative detainees.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <em>Jerusalem Post<\/em> of 7th May, very few books are allowed into this concentration camp. Among books that have been banned are not only tracts on Marxism and a biography of George Orwell, but also the Dialogues of Plato. When Ms Tamar Peleg, a lawyer representing many of the prisoners, asked the camp&#8217;s commander for the reason for this ban, he explained that Plato is forbidden &#8216;because he rejected the democratic rule of the people&#8217;s representatives.&#8217;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to the Jerusalem Post of 7th May, very few books are allowed Into Qezi&#8217;ot.
